On my 1993 (mfg. date) Whirlpool side-by-side refrigerator/freezer, the shelf endcaps on the inside of the refrigerator door were broken. The endcaps (paired) are the plastic pieces that attach each shelf's horizontal metal strip to the door. The horizontal strip acts as a retainer to keep items from falling off the shelf.
The refrigerator door contains 4 door shelves, thus 4 horizontal metal strips held in place by 8 plastic endcaps. Some of the original endcaps, though broken (part of the plastic clip on the back of the end cap were broken off), were still able to support the horizontal strips, but not in a sturdy way. If too many items were sitting on a shelf, and exerting forward pressure against the retaining strip, the endcaps would sometimes break away from the door, and items would fall from the shelf.
So, I decided to see if there are replacement parts for my 21-year-old refrigerator. The first website I looked at didn’t have parts for my exact model number. The endcaps they had available were shaped differently than mine. The second website I looked at was AppliancePartsPros. They listed the exact model number of my refrigerator, and showed images of the 2-pack endcaps. Although shaped identically to my originals, these endcaps’ part number replaced the original part number. These newer-designed endcaps showed additional plastic in the clips — making them sturdier than the originals, and ensuring that the clips wouldn’t break.
I ordered four 2-packs: 4@$3.11 ea = $12.44 + 6.95 Shipping = $19.39
I received the order via FedEx, two days later.
THANK YOU AppliancePartsPros for maintaining a stock of items that are as old as 21 years!
