This was an easy fix, if one knows how to use the self diagnostics. The error code points to the suspect part malfunctioning. I replaced the thermister, and turned the appliance back on. After a 3 minute pause, I ran the self check again, and there were no more errors detected. Problem solved. Also, it does help if one knows how to put the refrigerator into manual defrost, as this will help to speed up the time needed to safely remove the panel covering the evaporator coils.
