It was after 11:00 at night a few nights ago, I couldn't sleep listening to the whining of the fan in the freezer, it was running and making noise sounding like waaoooww, waaaoww. It also sounded like grumbling of a garbage disposal. The refrigerator fan motor was so noisy it was keeping me up all night going on and off running really loud and about to fail. So I was desperate, and called AppliancePartsPros when I couldn't get to sleep near midnight because the fan was so noisy and Bud in Tennessee helped me order the motor, grommets, and fan.
When the parts came, I made a plan. I first pulled the ice cream from the freezer and I ate it while I was watching the freezer evaporator fan motor repair video online. I watched the video two times before I started my repair and ate all the ice cream so it wouldn't melt in the fridge while I was repairing it. I moved the freezer stuff to the refrigerator to start the repair and unplugged the fridge to repair the freezer section fan motor. The rest of the stuff in the refrigerator mostly survived to be put back in the freezer when I was done or I ate it.
I carefully followed instructions to check how each step was done from the video. I wrote down which way the fan blades were pointing and measured how far in the fan was pushed when I took the cover off with a screwdriver tip and my finger. I wrote down to reconnect the ground wire. I put things in order as I took them off and reversed the order when I put them together. I put new grommets on, the old ones were pitted and I seated the motor on the back grommet as I put the bracket with the fan motor on with screws. While putting it all together, I rewatched the video two more times in between to make sure I was doing it exactly right. Before I put the cover on, I checked the fan clearance and spun it around. I cleaned the freezer and plugged it in.
I could hardly hear the fan it was so quiet! It was running so crisp! It is so quiet compared to what it sounded like before, it is like a new refrigerator, and yes, the evaporator fan motor runs perfectly! Now I can get some sleep. Thanks Bud for saying I could do it. I did it and my fridge is like new, so quiet, and I am sure I saved $400.00 at least the cost difference of a new one! You are the best AppliancePartsPros! Thank you!
