I read through other posts that describe folks having similar freezer/fridge issues. It allowed me to diagnose and treat the problem. It appeared I needed a new controller board (next to the lights in the fridge).
Ordered the part, and it was delivered quickly. I watched the video on the site that shows step-by-step how to remove the old board and install a new one. I Installed the new part. (only took a screwdriver to push tabs in to expose the old board). After one full night with the new board installed the freezer defrosted the iced-up fins and the fan in the fridge began to pump out cool air.
