First I had to check out the heater. I used an ohmmeter to check continuity on the element. It read open. I then disassembled freezer panels to access the coil and heater. The new parts were an exact replacement. I also replaced the defrost limit switch at the same time as the heater. It just made sense and the part was cheap.
