I replaced the original lid door locking mechanism with a totally new lock design from GE. Apparently, GE is aware there are problems with the factory-installed lid lock system. So GE offers an improved lock device, wiring harness, and necessary parts. (Don't Panic!!! The replacement looks totally different from the original.)
Thank goodness the kit comes with instructions for installation. READ INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY. SOME PORTIONS CAN BE CONFUSING. RE-READING AND LOOKING AT THE ILLUSTRATIONS WILL HELP. The repair took about an hour. My washer works like new. I am happy with the results.
