I replaced the paddle assembly lever with a new one. Unfortunately, the Samsung dispenser on this unit is poorly designed. There is a protruding plastic lever, attached to the back of the front and back paddles, that presses against a small button in back of the housing to trip the ice and water. The ice actuator fits into a slot in the upper portion of the back paddle. Because the lever is a small, cheap plastic prong, it eventually faces stress fractures and breaks. This lever, which also acts as a stop between the ice and water paddles, prevents the first paddle from hitting the second when pressed. When it breaks, pressing the ice switch results only in the water paddle tripping and outputs only water.
To repair you have to remove one screw from the housing assembly, remove the square housing from the door (an act of force and God), remove the circuit cables, and take out the assembly (a second act of force/God). Then replace it and reverse the steps to re-install. Bottom line: You need to be very careful when using either paddle. LIGHTLY, press the paddle until it connects and dispenses. GRADUALLY in crease the force until it dispenses. Of course, try telling that to the family who rams the cups in at full force, like it's a personal Olympic event. :-)
