Michael C Gloucester , MA January 06, 2015 Loud squeal from rear of dryer and worn top drum glide I guess I'm old school. I tool disassembled the front door and lower real panel to inspect the machine. After locating the problem, the worn front top drum glide, which subsequently lowered the positioning of the drum and throwing the rear bearing off kilter I decided to replace both pieces. The belt appeared to be in good shape. The drum glide seems a bit expensive, I've seen it listed on Amazon for less, but chose to stick with ApplianceParts for this fix. The parts arrived in a couple of day, quicker than I had expected. Gleaning off the old glide and reattaching the new piece was fairly simple. The drum bearing, because of its uneven rotation appeared worn which is why I decided to replace it as well. This is where better directions would have come in helpful, perhaps a page or two from a service manual - but that may simply depend upon the particular dryer. As a layman who is not in the repair business I had to settle for reassembling the unit then turning it on to make sure it was working correctly. Fortunately it works fine now. I'm satisfied with AP and all of their service. A repair like this always builds my confidence for approaching the next job. As I said, I'm old school, which is why I believe cursive writing should be taught once again. 18 People found this story helpful Do-It-Yourself Rating: Repair Time Estimate: 2+ hours
