I took both off and tested with volt meter. Both where in good working order. I was discussing it with my wife and she asked if the timer switch could be broken.I would have never thought about it but what the heck. It was a long shot but after I installed the new timer switch and a new knob to boot, the dryer has been working fine ever since.
