Disassembled the dryer with the aid of the AppliancePartsPros video on YouTube. Found that the blower wheel was spinning freely on the motor shaft due to excessive wear. This explained the overheat condition as the wheel was unable to circulate the heat through the dryer, plus this condition caused an excessive buildup of lint in the associated internal ducting which is a fire hazard. I ordered the required parts through APP, which arrived quickly, installed them and reassembled the dryer. Before reassembly I went through thoroughly with a shop vac to remove all dust and lint buildup. All is good in the universe again.
