First, I called whirlpool for technical support. They were absolutely no help whatsoever, except to refer me to repair man, which sounded like it was going to be about $250. I decided to try to fix it myself... it couldn't be that complicated, right? I ordered a thermal protection fuse from appliance parts pros, I received it in 2 days and it only took about 20 minutes to install. I flipped the breaker, and voila(!) my oven works!
