I ordered a new agitator and replaced the broken one. Note that the old one was hard to remove, so I let some hot water run into the tub, added a bit of vinegar, and let it sit for about 15 minutes. I think this helped because I was able to remove it after that. The video provided on this site made this all possible and avoided an expensive repairman for something that turned out simple to do myself.
