Since I had re-used the original fan connected to the motor, I figured that the plastic had melted a small amount causing the fan to be out of balance from the overheated motor shaft on which it was mounted. I replaced the fan with a new one and that eliminated the excess vibrations and the dryer was then as quiet as it had been originally.
