The cap has three small plastic tabs that snaps down into tab slots at the bottom center of the washing machine tub. At least one of those tabs snaps off approximately every 18 months. This is the third Pulsator cap that we have had to replace. No tools required, it just snaps down into place when you line the plastics tabs up with the tab slots in the bottom.
