Like many other people, it turns out my spider was severely corroded and cracked so that it would cause the washing drum to flex a bit during the final spin and rub against the rubber boot in the front. Upon taking it apart I noticed that the inner bearing was showing some signs of rust. I ended up replacing the spider, inner bearing and tub/bearing seal as well as the outer tub seal. When I was in there I also replaced the drain pump as I noticed the seal had gone on that and water was making its way into the motor. Overall a pretty easy repair - the most difficult part was inserting the new bearing. it took about 30 minutes of carefully placed hits with the hammer (using old bearing in between) alternating between the 12, 6, 3 and 9 oclock positions to make the bearing seat squarely.
