Watched the AppliancePartsPros.com video and determined that we needed a new drum support shaft and bearing. When I opened up the cabinet and removed the drum, there was evidence of the crumbled old bearing, (bits of black plastic piled at the back of the dryer). Replacing the bearing on the drum was straightforward.
Kneeling and reaching under the drum with both hands while threading the belt over the idler pulley and motor shaft blind was a challenge for this old guy, but I got it done.
My advice to people doing this repair would be:
1) Order a replacement belt like I did, even though its not broken. Our old belt was quite worn, so I saved a future repair by replacing the belt along with the bearing.
2) Have your shop vacuum ready, as you'll find lots of dust and lint inside your dryer, (but probably no money).
3) If you're an old guy like me, take a preemptive dose of Advil before doing this, you're going to need it.
