Bought the GE lid lock kit. Before I found out how to get into service mode, I had learned how to disassemble the top from the washing machine so it only took about 20 minutes to do the job. The trickiest part were the metal wire holders and tended to pop off. Then I went back in service mode and the lid lock now worked. Left service mode and started a test load. I think the control system was a little confused but it started up and worked great. I cannot recommend enough tilting the washing machine to get to the service paperwork which is usually on the left side inside the washing machine. The GE service kit was easy to use and I like the new lid lock better than the original on the machine.
