I determined that the water inlet valve was defective and ordered the replacement. However, when I removed the icemaker, the coating on the inside of the ice maker was cracking and there were a lot of residues which is probably the result of hard water. So I also ordered a complete ice maker assembly which was also replaced. AppliancePartsPros.com provided some valuable videos which helped make the process easier. To replace both took about 1 hour including purging the new valve with 2 gallons of water.
