How to replace Vent Cover (Dishwasher). I started thinking the obvious things first, bad door gasket, or a leak from the drain hose. I ran a rinse cycle and lay on the floor and watched for the water to come out. It trickled out from the bottom of the door. After researching it on the internet, I thought that maybe the door behind the vent cover was jammed in the open position and water was making it way through the vent and down the duct at the bottom of the door. I took the outer door panel off and could see rust on some of the metal parts opposite the vent cover. This seemed to confirm my suspicion. I saw six screws on the compartment that housed the door that opens to vent the dishwasher after a cycle. I thought by taking these off, I could see inside and find out if the door was jammed or gunked up. Turns out that four of the six screws fit into the back of the vent cover and this is what holds the vent cover on. three of the four screw anchor on the back of the vent cover had broken off, so it was only being held tight to the inside of the door by one screw and water was entering through the small gap. Plus the new part had a rubber gasket, where the old one did not ,and that couldn't have been helping the situation. Put it all back together and it worked fine. 2 People found this story helpful Do-It-Yourself Rating: Repair Time Estimate: 15-30 minutes
