Using diagnostics, I determined the lid lock switch was most likely the cause. I ordered a replacement kit and, despite receiving a defective part the first time around, it was replaced at no charge and, after receiving a new switch; the problem was solved. It was easy to install. Maybe I can get a few more years out of this washing machine.
