After downloading the manuals for our model, I simply studied the parts page to determine whether I would be able to replace parts and save a major purchase or repair bill. Initially, I purchased a heating element, hoping this would be sufficient, but the heating element I took out looked fine and the unit blew cool air. I left the new element in and ordered the thermostat and thermal cut-off kit. This went in easily and we now have a working dryer with repairs less than $100. I also have a spare heating element which I suspect we won't have to use for about 15 more years!
The entire process took about an hour and 15 minutes. My biggest obstacle was the vent pipe off and on. Thanks appliance parts pros for pricing the same parts at about 1/2 of some of the other parts places!
