William D Toms River , NJ November 03, 2018 Appliance: Model JGBS64DEF1BB Needed a new gas valve Ordered a new one from you, and then proceed to find how to remove the top. After I managed to lift up the top, the gas pipes bent upward also. Then I managed to see that the front panel covering the knobs came off. Then I unscrewed the clamp holding the valve down, and loosened the valve and the striker assembly into which the valve was inserted. There I hit a wall. Trying to get the valve out of the spark collar. It was stuck tight. I called your adviser, and asked the girl to ask someone there how to pull it out as I did not want to bank it out, and the shaft was on a spring. She just looked up the parts, and told me that it comes out, but she did know how to remove it. I thanked her, and the grabbed a small bladed screw driver, and pried it out, and found that grease has found its way into the spark collar, and then hardened, and then I cleaned the opening and then replaced the valve, and reinstalled everything, while listening to my wife tells me that I should call a service man many times. Any way I estimate I saved about $250 on the not service call. I realize that you can't have someone there who knows everything about all the appliances, most of the main info today is how to open up the appliance, especially with the cheap sheet metal they use now days, especially the Haier/GE (Chinese brand) My Grandmother had her stove for over 60 years until she died, with no need ever to have a part replaced. (And flint strikers almost never wore out and the flint pce was replaceable. Progress??????? Read More... Do-It-Yourself Rating: Repair Time Estimate: 30-60 minutes Tools: Nut Drivers, Screwdrivers
