Description

The reel and cam plate is a part of the engine's starter assembly. It engages against the starter pulley on the same side as the engine. Over time, it may wear down and no longer be able to engage the starter pulley. As a result, the lawn trimmer or edger will not start. Symptoms that the reel and cam plate are starting to wear down or malfunction include the starter not engaging, a cam plate that is stripped, if the starter rope is pulling too easily, or when the starter rope doesn't engage at all. Wear gloves when replacing the reel and cam plate set. The tools needed to replace the part are Phillip's screwdriver and Torx wrenches. Remove the engine shroud screws. Pull off the spark plug boot. Remove screws that secure the starter to the engine. Remove the single screw holding cam plate in place and replace it with a new part. Secure everything back together.The reel and cam plate set is a genuine OEM replacement part.
