Do I just slide the old one out and slip the new one in where I pulled out the old one? Is the wire plug the same as my old part and will my old knob fit on the new part or do I need to order a new knob also?

Gary August 18, 2016 for Model Number 253.9133580 I have a Kenmore chest freezer, model #253.9133580. I ordered a new temp control, and the part # is 5304496560. My old plug for my old temp control has 3 wires on it, with 3 connection points. The replacement temp control has only 2 connections. The instructions for the new temp control say to cut the old plug and hook the 2 you cut onto the new control. My question is does the new control only need the 2 wires, and what was the 3rd. one on the old control for? Thanks, Gary

Steve October 30, 2013 for Model Number HFS208SMO My chest freezer was not runnning...I turned cold controller from normal to colder on dial. The compressor started and managed to freeze every thing again. When I turn dial back to normal then the freezer will not run. I turn back to colder selection on dial would not run had to go pass colder this time and had to tap on side of freezer where switch is located, Compressor started. So it seems to me the temperature control switch is not functioning properly. What do you think?
