This idler spring attaches to the idler arm to keep the drive belt properly tensioned, preventing slip and chatter. Replacing a weak or broken spring restores steady rotation and helps reduce noise and belt wear.

  • Maintains correct belt tension by pulling the idler arm into position
  • Helps prevent belt slippage, squealing/chirping, and premature belt wear
  • A failed spring can cause no or intermittent rotation and the belt coming off
  • Typical signs include a loose belt, off-track belt, or rhythmic squeak from the base
What's included: One idler spring. Installation notes:
  • Disconnect power before servicing; if working on a gas appliance, shut off the gas supply
  • Access the idler assembly; note belt routing before removal
  • Relieve belt tension, then move the idler arm to remove and replace the spring on the same mounting holes
  • After reassembly, rotate by hand to verify smooth belt tracking before test

Questions & Answers

For Frigidaire Idler Spring (Belt Tensioner) (Part Number: OEM6321717)

1 Answer

Cobb, Here's some help : "Removing the idler pulley assembly: 1. Disconnect the dryer from electricalsupply and remove the rear access panel. 2. Release the belt from the motor pulley. 3. Release the idler spring from the motor and lift the assembly off the motor." Looking at the idler assembly from the access panel, and with the idler assembly in the up(1 o'clock) position, you'll insert one end of the spring into the small hole to the left and at the end of the idler assembly. The other end of the spring will be inserted into the small hole of the motor mount assembly, on the left side of the plate, then install the belt. Thanks and Good Luck.
