The User Interface Control Board is an OEM replacement part for GE dishwashers. It is essentially the "brain" of the appliance. It is the part that manages and controls all of the electronic functions within the dishwasher. This includes interpreting input from the user via the control panel and ensuring that the various parts of the dishwasher (like the pump, heating element, and water inlet valve) operate as needed.

If the User Interface Control Board is faulty, it can cause a variety of issues such as:

  • The dishwasher won't start
  • The dishwasher won't complete a cycle
  • Error codes
  • Unresponsive controls
  • Abnormal behavior

Common causes of a bad User Interface Control Board can include power surges, age and general wear and tear, water or moisture damage, or a manufacturing defect.

This GE replacement part is also compatible with Hotpoint, RCA, and some Kenmore dishwashers.

Questions & Answers

For Ge User Interface Control Board (Part Number: OEM21613071)

Bob, Make sure the machine is grounded and polarized, as an electrical issue could also cause the issue. Per your description, it sounds like a CSM-type of issue. A CSM is a protective device that is part of GE Dishwashers and located on the main control board. This device is designed to trip if current leakage to ground is above 20mA ± 5mA is detected. The CSM functions similarly to commercially available GFCIs. Cycling power to the dishwasher will also reset the CSM, allowing consumers to reset it without a service call. The cause of tripping is likely external to the board itself. The board should only be replaced after all other diagnostic tests have been completed and all other potential causes have been ruled out. Potential causes of current leakage to ground could be due to water leaking onto a live component, a component malfunction, or a fault within the wiring harness.

Rod, This issue would most likely be caused by a faulty UI board that will need to be replaced.

Rod M, Based on the information provided the flashing light may indicate a tripped CSM (Current Sense Module). Using the tech sheet packaged with your machine place the machine into the service diagnostics mode.
