The waveguide cover shields the microwave's waveguide opening from food splatter and moisture while allowing microwave energy to enter the cavity. Replacing a burned or damaged cover helps prevent arcing and supports safe, consistent cooking performance.

  • Guards the waveguide/magnetron feed opening from grease, steam, and debris while letting RF energy pass into the oven cavity
  • Helps resolve sparking, popping noises, or scorch marks caused by a contaminated or deteriorated cover
  • Restores protection when the original cover is burned, cracked, warped, or missing
  • Typical signs you may need this part: visible burn spots on the cover, charring near the side wall, smoke or an acrid/ozone odor during operation
What's included: 1 waveguide cover Install notes:
  • Disconnect power by unplugging the unit or switching off the circuit breaker; high-voltage components can retain a charge
  • From inside the oven cavity, release the retaining screw or tabs, remove the old cover, and clean any carbonized residue around the waveguide opening
  • Position the new cover in the same orientation and secure it with the existing fastener/clip if present; do not operate the microwave without this cover installed

Johnna, it is possible the cover is causing some arcing, it also could be coming from the magnetron and the waveguide. It would need to be taken apart and closely examined to find the burn marks.

Mark, the waveguide cover should be mounted in place with a screw and would be accessed by removing the outer cover panel.

Mark, You would want to have a small flat blade screwdriver or "putty knife" handy. The WB39X10034 / WB39X10034 Wave Guide Cover, is a semi-rigid panel(similar to a playing card) and can be flexed and removed from the wall cavity pretty easily, but first, you need to carefully remove the WB01X10418 / WB01X10418 plastic nail that holds the waveguide to the wall, then flex the cover and reverse the procedure after you clean and remove any grease, debris, etc. from the waveguide area. Thanks,

Hello Carol. You just unsnap the old one from the side wall and snap the new one into place. These are very easy to replace.
