The Drum Support Bearing is an OEM part for GE dryers. This part allows the smooth rotation of the dryer drum. This small yet crucial component plays a pivotal role in the dryer's operation, supporting the back of the drum as it turns, and ensuring that clothes are dried evenly and efficiently.

Over time, the drum support bearing may wear out or become damaged due to the constant friction and heat generated during the dryer's operation.

Symptoms of a bad Drum Support Bearing include:

  • A squealing or grinding noise during operation, indicating that the bearing is worn out.
  • Difficulty turning the drum by hand.
  • Excessive vibration or shaking of the dryer.
  • Increased drying times, as a result of the drum not maintaining the correct speed due to bearing friction.

This OEM GE part is also compatible with Hotpoint, RCA, and some Kenmore models.

For Ge Drum Support Bearing (Part Number: OEM6127587)

Jenf for Model Number WSM2780TEWWB

My dryer squeals when it's first starting up and then seems to stop once the unit has been tumbling for a bit. So I purchased the Drum Support Bearing (WE3X70) based on feedback from this site about the likely culprit. I was watching a video on replacing the whole Rear Drum Bearing kit (WE25X10001) and saw part of the Drum Support Bearing repair was to use grease/lubricant to put the ball bearing back into the Drum Support Bearing. Since I just ordered the Drum Support Bearing, am I going to need to find other grease to accomplish this? Is this necessary for proper installation of the new part?

JenF., Replacing the Support Bearing will eliminate the issue. Yes, you want to liberally lubricate the bearing support with silicone-based grease. In a "pinch" White Lithium Grease will also work for a while but a silicone or synthetic based grease is best. Thanks,

Ron, you will need to unplug and disassemble the dryer first by removing the top panel. From there, you will remove the control panel. Once the control panel is removed, you will want to remove the lower front panel and then the upper front panel. Once the panels are removed, you will want to remove the dryer belt, lift up on the rear of the drum and slide the drum forward and out of the cabin. This will give you access to change out the support bearing.

Allen, With the unit having trouble starting to turn but turning fine when it gets going then this would be an issue with the motor start winding going out on the motor.

Jerry, One screw falling out should not cause the unit to not operate and you will want to check to make sure that the belt has not broken, make sure that the broken belt switch is good and make sure that the thermal fuse is good.

Roy, The most likely cause for the dryer squeaking and chirping would be that the rear bearing is bad on the unit and would need to be replaced. Once the bearing heats up it is causing this noise. The part number for the bearing is WE25X10001.

Hello Rick. Check the front support bearing and the rear bearing in the unit. Also, the idler pulley for the belt could be bad.
