John, You can purchase the spring. You should also remove the bucket and manually move the rod to make sure nothing is bound up. Also, remember that the solenoid behind the cover is responsible for lifting the rod.

Dear friends, The ice maker auger (the spiral-shaped, clear-plastic, twisted piece that pushes the ice down the container toward the front of the freezer for automatic dispensing) has cracked, rendering the ice maker unusable. Our auger is about 17 1/4" long. Every auger that we can find that supposedly is for this model fridge is only 14" long. Is the one in your replacement kit 17 1/4"? Can you help? We do have a stainless steel refrigerator that has the label, "GE Profile" on the front. Maybe it is a little deeper than the standard model? Thanks so much! Heather

Heather, unfortunately, the manufacturer no longer has the auger available separately from the bucket and auger assembly WR29X42453.

Broken auger in ice maker. I see TWO Bucket And Auger Assemblies: AP3957538 for $171.60 looks to be lower (and about 6-1/2" high) than the other one, AP4981524 for $76.66 which appears to be more like the 12" high on the front side (towards th door0 and the ice bucket to the rear is about 6-1/2 tall. I am pretty sure I need the latter one. Both diagram on each of the parts is the same, though comments below the diagram differ. Please confirm that the item AP4981524 - which is the one I think I need to order - is in fact about 12 in high at the front white part (with a flippy door you can reach in), and has the rear part 9ice bucket) that is about 6-`/2 inches high. (Your pictures and data are confusing.) Thanks. Thanks also for being there in the past.
