For Ge Motor Assy - Turntable (Part Number: OEM9550917)

Steve for Model Number ge microwave model number jvm1490sh 01

I just replaced my motor on the microwave and when I did a check of its operation, it started and worked fine, but after 30 seconds the motor got very hot to touch (I didn't replace the bottom cover so I could see & feel the motor) it made a pop noise, and I could smell the electrical fumes of the motor. Needless to say it quit and would not work again. I checked my wires electrical output, and it reads 117 a/c volts to the motor when I start the microwave. What could have caused the motor to pop and burn out?

Hi Steve. Along in the turntable motor kit is a round 3" metal spacer that had a flat "side" edge. The breakdown shows that it is first mounted and the flat edge faces back and and is parallel to the back. It is placed as a "cupped" part up into place. Then the phenolic spacer is placed in the middle of the motor shaft and is sandwiched in between the cupped plate and the motor. Then the motor is bolted lastly into place. You have to be sure the motor shaft is perfectly centered as it is bolted into place so the shaft does not drag anywhere to bind it's operations. The motor is driven by 120 vac and it takes allot of power to smoke one. It sounds like it bound up. Thank You.

Robert M. for Model Number SCA1000HCC02

The turntable in our GE Avantium microwave has developed a noticeable "jerky" mode of rotation. Nothing in the interior of the unit is responsible -- everything is clean. I am concerned the motor may seize up and stop rotating. It appears I need, or soon will need, a new turntable motor assembly to restore normal operation. Questions: Can I replace the assembly by taking off the bottom cover on this over-the-range microwave or must the unit be taken down first? Other than the bottom cover, attached by screws around its perimeter, is any further unit or case disassembly required before the motor assembly can be accessed and removed? I would like to avoid a GE service call if possible. They are costly and if parts are not brought during the first service visit the costs rise still more if a return visit is needed.

Hi Robert. Remove the tray. Look under it to pull up on the shaft assy. part # WB06X10312. It is prone to break sometimes. The motor is part # WB26X10099. If you need to replace it you can remove the lower panel assy., un hook the light connectors and replace it. Thank You.
