Blake April 20, 2020 for Model Number GCG1580R0SS The ram for this trash compactor will not reverse when it hits bottom. Troubleshooting points to an issue with the motor centrifugal switch not allowing change of direction. Can it be changed without replacing entire motor? Also, in photos of the motor, I do not see the centrifugal switch mounted inside the cage. Just want to make sure it is included. Thanks.
1 Answer Hello Blake. Check if you have a full compacting feature at the on/off switch. Make sure it's not on that feature. Then check the directional switch. The motor centrifugal switch comes as an assembly with the motor. Thank you. Read More...
Kenneth February 05, 2020 for Model Number gcg1580loss Jumper works great it is the single wire I have a problem. Jumper no. wco1x10033 got replacement motor GE wc26x10006, the black wire will not match.
1 Answer Kenneth, the black wire coming from the cabinet will need to install onto the empty terminal of the overload protector mounted on the motor. The terminal is a 1/4" in size and should match up to the terminal at the end of the wire. Read More...
Steve February 14, 2016 for Model Number GCG1548F1SS GE Trash Compactor smokes when turned on. Electrical smell. Does that mean motor is bad?Doesn't trip fuse.
1 Answer Steve, You will want to make sure that there is nothing wrong with the rods not allowing the compactor to move and if this is not the case then the issue will be the motor. Read More...
Marvin W November 28, 2013 for Model Number GE trash compactor model # GCG1500LOBB The compactor only goes through its cycle if the foot pedal is held up through the complete cycle. It should go through its cycle if the foot pedal is pushed up and released. I changed the start button at the bottom (ie the button that the foot pedal activates) as well as the start switch behind the on / off switch. This did not make a difference. Can you please advise as to which parts need to be replaced. Thank you.
1 Answer Marvin, This issue would most likely be caused by a faulty centrifugal switch on the motor in which the motor would need to be changed. Read More...
Kat August 11, 2013 for Model Number ZCGS150LSS-00 I purchased WC26X10006 for my GE monogram trash compactor. I installed according to directions, noticed that the jumper connects the blue wire to the yellow and yellow to blue but the comments for this part says this is OK. When I run the compactor, the motor starts for a little and stops after 10 seconds, hearing a click from the motor when it stops. Unlike the old motor I was replacing, doesn't even "hum" when I hold the peddle up to (re-)start the compactor.
1 Answer Hello Kat. Check the directional switch on the unit and see if it is bad. Also, you may need to switch the wires out if needed to match up. Read More...
Scott July 28, 2013 for Model Number GCG1500L0BB I have just purchased and installed the motor assembly for my trash compactor. It does not work due to the jumper harness that connets to the cabinet. The yellow wire connects to the blue wire and the blue wire connects to the yellow wire. The red wire connects correctly red to red. If I try turning the harness so that the wires match the connection ends will not insert. It is like putting a triangle into a circle. I have contacted Appliance Parts and they are sending me a new jumper harness but if the connection still does not connect properly Can I hard wire the jumper harness to the cabinet?
1 Answer Hello Scott. No, it is not advised. You need to use the jumper sent with the motor and plug it into the harness and the motor should work fine, if the motor is the issue. Read More...

Bill November 07, 2012 for Model Number GE GCG1580L0SS Like Linda, who posted here, I bought the GE WC26X10006 motor and noticed that the wiring jumper that came with it and connects the cabinet wires to the motor will only fit the flat connector if I turn it so the blue and yellow wires will be transposed (the red center wire is still in the center). Linda's question was not actually answered directly. Can I connect the jumper so it reverses the blue and yellow wires at the flat (cabinet) end? I have not tried this yet as I don't want to burn up the motor if it would be a problem to reverse them. Thanks
1 Answer Hello Bill. Yes, it is fine to connect the other way. Should not hurt the motor at all. Read More...
Jack April 11, 2012 for Model Number GCG1500 GE Trash compactor I am installing new motor. The drive gear that came with the new motor does not have a chain sprocket. Should I use the old one and please give me a tip on removing it from the old gear correctly? Thanks,
1 Answer Hello Jack. Yes, you will need to use the old sprocket. Once you remove the c clip holding the gear in place, you will pull the gear off the shaft, and then the sprocket and old gear will separate. Then install the new gear in the motor kit WC26X10006. Hope this helps. Read More...
Linda May 05, 2011 for Model Number WC26X10006 We purchased this replacement motor and drive gear for our GE GCG1580LSS trash compactor. The harness has blue, yellow and red wires. (one of each). The problem is that they do not connect blue to blue, yellow to yellow, etc. This is directional and unable to turn it around to match up. Is it possible this was put together wrong by the manufacturer? Or is there something we can do to make this operational. The compactor does not work if we hook it up the way it was shipped.
1 Answer Hello Linda! Did you receive the jumper harness in the motor and drive gear kit WC26X10006? The jumper harness connects the new motor to the cabinet. If this was missing out of the kit you received please contact our customer service team for a replacement part. Thanks. Read More...
