Jim for Model Number GSS20DBPHWW

Hi, The refrigerator at my job keeps freezing up & of course not working properly. The defrost heater has been replaced but it still won't defrost automatically. What other parts should be checked? I know how to test the defrost heater cut-out switch but if one or both of the thermistors are bad how can I check them? This unit alsp has a mother board. Can that be checked? If so, how is that checked? Is there any way to initiate a defrost cycle so I can see what is actually happening? Like, advancing the defrost timer (which this unit doesn't have) on an older model refrigerator. Rhanks so much for your time! Jim

Hello Jim, There is no way to force a defrost on these units but if you go to the control board with the wiring diagram, (J11 to J9 on most), you can jump 120Vac to the defrost terminal and see if the heater energizes. If it doesn't, either the defrost heater is bad or the defrost thermostat isn't closing when it reaches about 15°F. If it does energize, you either have a bad evaporator sensor or the main board has failed.

Hello Edward. If there is no power going to the capacitor or the compressor, then it sounds like the main control board WR55X10942C is bad and will need to be replaced.

Sara, The power cord for your refrigerator is located and mounted to the rear of the machine. Unfortunately, The male and female connectors, are not supplied with the cord or wiring harness, you will need to purchase separate connectors as needed, or securely splice the wires as needed. Thanks and Good Luck
