The Flood Switch is an OEM part for GE dishwashers. This critical component detects and prevents potential overflows by monitoring water levels within the dishwasher. When excessive water is detected, the flood switch signals the dishwasher to shut off water flow, preventing leaks and potential water damage.

Causes of a bad flood switch can include electrical failures, physical damage from debris, or wear and tear from repeated use. If the flood switch malfunctions, it may not properly detect water levels, leading to possible overflows or improper operation of the dishwasher.

Symptoms of a bad flood switch include:

  • The dishwasher stopping mid-cycle
  • Water not filling or overfilling the dishwasher
  • Error codes related to water level issues
  • Leaks around the dishwasher

This GE replacement part is also compatible with Hotpoint, RCA, and some Kenmore models.

Questions & Answers

For Ge Flood Switch (Part Number: OEM18145179)

Lukez for Model Number GDT655SSJ2SS

My GE dishwasher does not dry after a full cycle of washing. We looked some youtube videos and they suggest that the flood switch be replaced (e.g., https://youtu.be/jcm6-huXtKY?si=QrpgZQGQYEZad-W7). However, I later realized the flood switch in these video is different from the one in our dishwasher (theirs is inside the dishwasher under the filter while ours is outside on the bottom of the dishwasher.) The shape is also completely different. So I'm asking whether I should still try to replace the flood switch or check on different parts in order to fix the issue. Thanks.

LukeZ, Based on the information provided I would recommend using a multimeter and the machine's tech sheet to check the heater circuit. This would consist of the power from the board, the TCO, and the element. You can also place the machine into the service mode to check for any error codes.
