Kevin July 22, 2016 for Model Number GE-PDS18LBMABB I REPLACED THE DEFROST TIMER, AND UNIT STILL FREEZES UP. DOES THE DEFROST THERMOSTAT TURN ON THE HEATING STRIP TO BEGIN DEFROST PROCESS, OR DOES IT ONLY COME ON TO STOP THE PROCESS TO PREVENT OVERHEATING AFTER DEFROSTING OCCURS?
1 Answer Hello Kevin. It does have to be closed for the heater to come on and then it opens to turn the heater off. Read More...
Kevin F July 22, 2016 for Model Number pds18lbmabb Unit coils freeze up. Replaced defrost timer- no change. Does thermostat control heater turning on, or just turns it off after heating/defrosting done? I found a defrost heater even though its not stocked anymore, but its 3 times the price of the thermostat.
1 Answer Kevin, With having replaced the defrost timer already then it would be recommended to test the defrost thermostat for continuity. If it does not have continuity then it is faulty and would need to be changed. If the defrost thermostat checks ok then the defrost heater would be the issue. Read More...
Garka February 08, 2013 for Model Number tns22brcblbs My GE fridge is icing up in the drain in the freezer, and the fan gets stuck in the ice. I installed a new timer, and the problem did not stop - after two weeks same problem. I verified the defrost element is coming on, and heating properly. It never did this before. The fan spins properly, the defrost element comes on correctly, etc. but warmish fridge and it runs more when icing up. So, I ordered the correct Defrost thermostat, part number WR50X133 and went to install it. The two wires are of different color than the ones on my presumed faulty defrost thermostat, so I do not know how to wire the new part. The unit currently in the fridge has a brown wire and a black wire. The new part has an orange wire, and a yellow wire. When I call here, or GE, or anywhere, no one can tell me what wire to splice to what wire. HELP??
1 Answer Garka, You'll need to check the defrost drain and drain tube for clogs and debris, with hot water and a flexible tube or rod the carefully "push " any debris out the system. Also check the defrost pan for warpage or distortion, causing the defrost water to freeze and ice up. Read More...
Mlon100@Earthlink.Net December 06, 2012 for Model Number pds18lbmbbb Freezer fine but top section does not cool.
1 Answer Hello Mlon, You may want to check to make sure that there is not ice build up around the evaporator fan motor. To do this you will need to remove the lower section of shelving in the refrigerator compartment. Once you have the shelving out the lower floor of the refrigerator can be removed. When you remove the floor of refrigerator then there will be a styrofoam piece that will have to be removed. Once removed this gives you access to the fan motor and evaporator. Check to make sure that evaporator is not impacted with ice and if not check the heater and bimetal for continuity. If they have a good frost pattern then you will want to check the drain. If the drain gets clogged it will build ice and cause fan motor not to run. This ice would need to be cleared and drain cleaned out. Read More...
Rich February 16, 2012 for Model Number PTC22MBMARBB The fan in the freezer is making a clicking sound which is hitting on the ice forming. The refrig. did stop cooling and the things in the freezer defrosted. The water drainage area was cleaned out but it is happening just after two weeks. What could be the problem?
1 Answer Hi Rich. The defrost thermostat needs to read closed while at frozen temperatures. Part # WR50X133. The heater needs to read approx. 8-18 ohms always. Part # WR51X10028. Turn the defrost timer center dial to see if it is hard or sticky. Timer is part # WR9X483. Thank You. Read More...
