This thermostat is the temperature control that regulates cooling cycles to keep the appliance operating within the correct range. Replaces a failed or intermittent control to restore normal temperature regulation and cycling. What it does

  • Senses temperature and signals the compressor or heating element to turn on/off as needed.
  • Stops excessive cycling and helps maintain steady interior temperature when the original thermostat fails.
  • Commonly used to address symptoms such as inconsistent temperatures, unit running constantly, or compressor not starting.
  • Works as a direct replacement when the original thermostat is damaged, corroded, or shows open/short electrical readings.
What's included
  • One thermostat.
Install notes
  • Disconnect power to the appliance before beginning any repair to avoid shock or injury.
  • Install in the same orientation and secure mounting to avoid pinched wires or damaged sensing elements.

I have removed the Control Panel and found the 90C Normally Open thermostat to be blacked and burned on the right side. I can't seem to find it on the diagram but its the thermostat on the right side when facing the microwave. My question is I do not know which of the two Thermostats to order as the failed part does not have a part number and the only info on the blown thermostat is 1307 on the top line followed by KSD 90c on the second and finally NO at the bottom.

I mistakenly ran the microwave for some amount of time with nothing in it, I meant to set timer but i started the microwave, i know I set it for 15 minutes but I'm not sure how long it ran before it shut off. Once it shut off it initially would not show any indication of power. Then after about 30 minutes or so it mysteriously powered back up but if fails to heat now . Everything works , it just will not heat. all thermal fuses seem to be fine, ALSO .. how do i determine the state of the 2 thermal fuses behind the panel, mounted to the bottom ? NO . NC ??? i know one of them test with continuity and the other doesnt

1 Answer

Lex, The 2 thermals behind the control panel one will be open and one will be normally closed. As for the heating issue you will want to check the magnetron to make sure that it is good and should have a resistance of less than one ohm to be good.

Bruce, With the unit not working then you will want to check the door switches as this will be the most likely cause for the unit to not work properly.

Julian, You will want to remove the cabinet and see if there is anything obstructing the fan and causing the noise. If this is not the case then the fan may need to be replaced.

Where can I get a Schematic of this Magic Chef Microwave. I don't know whether the thermostats are normally open or closed. The vent fan comes on when the heat rises from the oven below and eventually the whole microwave goes off. Unplugging the AC and plugging back up powers up the microwave but it does everything but heat up. The first two times this happened it eventually started heating up again. On number three now, no heat. The Magnetron and Cap seem to test ok so I don't know where to go without a schematic.

Charley, To get the wiring diagram for this unit, if it is not inside, you would need to go to the manufacturer which is MCAppliances.

Debbie, When metal in the microwave blocks the waves and it arcs back to the magnetron, the magnetron is damaged 3518003420 and wont produce microwaves. You may also need the capacitor 3518302201 and diode which is no longer available.

Harry, The 2 thermostats that are located on the base are part numbers 3518906800 and 3518905500. One of these will read normally open and the other should read normally closed. They would be wired in series with each other so that when one opens the other closes and allows the unit to continue to run.
