Vicki, Unfortunately due to the high heat inside a dryer there would not be a touch up paint that would work sufficiently for the interior.

Troy for Model Number MAYTAG SDE3606AYW

I see that you say do not paint the outside of the dryer drum. I had my dryer apart cleaning it and replacing wear parts in my basement this summer as I was drying clothes outside on a clothes line. This resulted in the exterior of the dryer drum getting a layer of oxidation on it. Tried cleaning it with a 50 to 50 vinegar soulution but once it dryed the oxidation came right back. I then used navy jelly and rinsed and wiped it dry and put a light coat of turbine oil on it. This seems to be working as far as the oxidation coming back. I'm just wondering how the steel on the outside of the drum was treated to keep it from rusting from the factory, Was it bluing or some kind of galvanized process or a propriatery process and at this point what is the best way to protect the outside of the drum from corrosion. Any advise as this drum is no longer available?

Sorry Troy. We do not have any information as to what was put on the drums at the factory.

Hello Rah, This can be used on the parts that contact the felt seal if allowed to dry naturally for 24 hours before assembly.

Hello Rah. Yes, you can use 350938 inside the dryer drum. To do so, you must Remove the plastic baffles from the inside of the drum. Thoroughly sand the inside of the drum with 100 or 120 grit sandpaper. Special care is needed to remove all films and residues that will prevent the new paint from sticking to the drum. Clean the inside of the drum with a paint thinner such as toluene that won't leave a residue. Buy an aerosol can of gray paint (part number 350938) and apply one good coat of paint to the inside of the drum. Do not paint the outside of the drum. Put the drum out in the sun to dry. The paint needs to dry to a hard finish before you reassemble the dryer. Another option may to assemble the dryer and run it with no clothes in it to thoroughly dry the paint. That should only be done on an electric dryer, not gas. The paint will wear off the inside of the drum after several years of use. Several other manufacturers use porcelain to avoid this problem. Whirlpool has attempted to deal with this deficiency in their later dryers by using coatings other than enamel paint but all of the older machines have paint. The concern with metal showing through the paint is that it can rust and put stains on your clothes. You have two options: (1) Use fabric softener sheets containing silicone that you throw in with your clothes while drying or (2) attempt to repaint the dryer drum. The fabric softener leaves a thin film that prevents rust from forming between loads. Rust is encouraged when wet or damp clothes are left in the dryer for several hours.
