The Diode is an OEM part for Whirlpool microwaves. It plays a crucial role in the microwave's operation by allowing electrical current to flow in one direction, essential for converting AC power to DC power, which is necessary for the microwave's components to function correctly.

Over time, the diode can fail due to electrical surges, general wear and tear, or exposure to high heat. A bad diode can disrupt the microwave's ability to heat food properly, leading to inefficient performance or complete appliance failure.

Symptoms of a bad diode include:

  • Microwave not heating
  • Sparking or unusual noises during operation
  • Burning smell from the microwave
  •  Microwave shutting down shortly after starting

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

KC, You will want to check the door switches on the unit as they will be the most likely cause for the fuse to blow.

Hello Jim, The high voltage diode is most likely blowing because of another component in the circuit that is out of tolerance. This can be the high voltage capacitor, the high voltage transformer, or even the magnetron. As a general rule, if one component in a circuit is blowing, there is an excessive current flow through the entire circuit and other components in the circuit be damaged.
