Symptoms of a bad door catch include:

  • The dryer door not staying closed
  • Difficulty latching the door shut
  • The dryer stopping mid-cycle due to the door opening

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

For Whirlpool Door Catch Kit (Part Number: OEM12727404)

Hello Mary, This can be caused either by a bad door strike W11429589 or catch W11429587 and it could also be caused by the door hinges, WPW10362431 (two of them), being worn or bent causing the door to strike the catch unevenly.

Paul for Model Number Amana Dryer # LE8567W2

The machine began to malfunction in that if the door was opened mid-cycle the machine would not restart when the door was closed. You had to turn the dial to the beginning of a cycle to get it to go. Now it will not start at all. Perhaps this is because the dial does not pop out as it should at the end of a cycle and therefore it cannot be depressed as it ordinarily would be to start the dryer. As you turn the dial around there are certain ranges in which you can hear a small motor running. If you leave the dial at one of these points it will continue moving until it gets to the end of that cycle. Then the small motor stops and the dial stops rotating, but as stated the dial does not pop out. The door switch turns out the light if it is pushed in.

Hello Kyu. When the dryer stops, do you have to let it cool for a few minutes before it starts? If so, the motor may be bad. If not, does it shut off on the control panel, and when you open the door, the panel comes on? If so, the control board, or a bad wire may be the issue on the dryer. Also, check the door switch on the unit and make sure it is good. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html
