The Ice Maker is an OEM part for Whirlpool refrigerators. This ice maker is responsible for producing ice cubes efficiently and reliably, ensuring you always have a steady supply of ice for your beverages and cooling needs.

Over time, factors that can contribute to a malfunctioning Ice Maker include scale buildup from hard water, a faulty water inlet valve, an improper freezer temperature, or wear and tear on mechanical components.

Symptoms of a bad Ice Maker include:

  • No ice production
  • Small or incomplete ice cubes
  • Leaking water in the freezer compartment
  • Unusual noises during the ice-making process

This OEM Whirlpool part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper and some Kenmore models.

Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Icemaker (Part Number: OEM18046131)

Dan Wilson for Model Number KitchenAid KFIS27CXWH1

The ice maker is not producing any ice. The water dispenser is working normally. The ice mold is empty, so I'm assuming water isn't reaching the ice maker. I'm aware of the test jumper ports on the ice maker, i.e. V-L for water inlet, and T-H to activate the "harvest" cycle. I have a couple of questions before I start disassembling the refrigerator. Web sources mention two water valves associated with the icemaker: W10270395 and 12956105. Are both valves potential failure points? If so, how can I tell which valve has failed? Is there a test I can perform on the valves? Thanks

Dan, The water valve WP12956105 is a dual valve for the water dispenser and the icemaker. The water valve WPW10270395 is also for both but is the primary valve and if the dispenser is working then this valve is working. The one that would be needed is WP12956105.

Hello Brandon, The icemaker and the water dispense are separate circuits and the valve is a dual valve which operate independently from one another. If the icemaker stopped full of ice, the icemaker WPW10122559 is most likely the cause of the issue. If the icemaker is empty, the issue is most likely the icemaker side of the water valve WPW10270395.

Hello Steve. Remove the ¼” hex head screw securing the ice maker assembly to the cabinet. Pull the ice maker assembly out and down to remove. Rest the assembly on the upper shelf. Disconnect the wiring harness. Slide out the assembly. When reassembling, make sure the grommet is installed properly to ensure a tight air seal. Unsnap fasteners securing fan cover and lift off. Roll out the ice maker to disengage lip on air diverter from ice maker housing and remove.

Hello Tim. The ice maker WPW10122559 cycles based on the temperature of the unit. When the icemaker senses the ice in the tray is frozen, it cycles and ejects the frozen ice and brings in water to start a new batch of ice. Based on the information you provided, it sounds like the icemaker is bad and will need to be replaced. Hope this helps.
