The Idler Pulley Arm is an OEM replacement part for Whirlpool dryers. As a connecting part, it works to route the drive belt and suspend the idler pulley. Mounted on a pivoting bracket, the durable arm positions the idler pulley to maintain proper belt tension over the lifter roll and drum.

Causes of a bad idler pulley arm can include fatigue from extended use, damage from overtightened belts, or broken welds impairing motion.

Symptoms of a bad idler pulley arm include:

  • Slipping or prematurely worn drive belts
  • Reduced or inconsistent drum rotation
  • Grating noises or abnormal vibrations during use

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore dryer models.

Jeff, The idler pulley arm comes as the arm and shaft. The pulley would need to be ordered separately.

I need to replace the idler arm and bearing idler assembly. I cannot tell from your picture if the shaft for the idler bearing pulley/wheel is mounted as ours is ....on a riveted in pulley shaft on the short portion on the idler arm = the end opposite the one with the hook. Everything else seems appropriate but the diagram seems to show the bearing idler assembly on the hook end of the idler arm - - - not on the shorter opposite end as ours is configured. Thanks for your help with this mystery. I want to order the correct parts but cannot see the cross view of the idler arm to determine if there is a riveted on shaft for the idler bearing assembly.

Hello Morris! Here is the information from the service manual on how to install the idler pulley assembly. Hope this helps! Removal: 1. Disconnect power to the machine. 2. Remove front panel and door. 3. Remove shroud/tumbler front assembly. 4. Remove belt and tumbler. 5. Unhook idler spring from the base frame and remove screw securing the assembly to motor support bracket. Disassembly: 1. Remove retaining clip from groove in shaft. 2. Remove fiber washer. 3. Remove idler pulley and bearing. 4. Remove second fiber washer. NOTE: There is a fiber washer between the pulley and the idler arm. When replacing parts be certain the order of replacement is correct. IMPORTANT: The position of the flange of the idler pulley is important. The flange should be positioned on the side opposite of the idler arm. *Install in reverse order.*

Hello Steve! Yes, you can replace the idler pully arm without removing the drum but it will be tight. You'll need to work from the back of the machine. Thanks.
