The Evaporator Fan Motor is an OEM part for Whirlpool refrigerators. This crucial component is responsible for circulating cool air throughout the refrigerator's evaporator coils, ensuring proper cooling and temperature regulation.

A faulty evaporator fan motor can be caused by various factors. Over time, the motor may experience wear and tear, leading to decreased performance or complete failure. Additionally, the accumulation of dust, debris, or ice on the fan blades can hinder its rotation and impact its functionality.

Symptoms of a bad evaporator fan motor may include:

  • Inadequate cooling or inconsistent temperature inside the refrigerator.
  • Unusual noises coming from the freezer or refrigerator compartment.
  • The fan not spinning or operating at a slower speed than usual.

This OEM Whirlpool part can also be used on Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore/Sears brand appliances.

Whirlpool Repair for Model Number Whirlpool model WRF989SDA03

I took out the two screws in the middle of the refrigerator evaporator cover facing to the refrigerator doors. The center tower seems to be popped up a little bit around the outer edges but the inner edges around the shelf holder don't move at all. The evaporator cover can not be pulled out with something blocked under the center tower. Anything else I can do to take the refrigerator evaporator cover out so I can check the fan behind? Thanks

Hello Whirlpool repair, You should remove the plastic insert at the top of the shelf hanger to expose the last screw. Be careful not to crack the styrofoam under the plastic cover since this would require the complete cover assembly to be replaced.

Hello, you will need to remove all the shelves in the refridgerator, remove the center tower in the back, they should pop out, you will see 2 screws that hold the evaporator cover on, remove screws and take cover off, you will then see the evaporator fan motor.

Hello Larry. To change the evaporator motor you will need to lift the freezer drawer out from the unit. If it will not lift out then at the back of the rails there is a hole that you would put a screwdriver in to release the rail. Once this is done then you would remove the air cover, icemaker if equipped, and the rear cover of the freezer. Once this is done, remove the fan blade by pulling straight off. It may be necessary to remove the fan shroud to replace the fan. You would take out 2 screw one from either side. Pull the fan blade off and remove the clip on the bottom of the motor to release the motor.

Anthony, To access the fan motor on your unit you will need to open the freezer door and on either side rail there is 1 screw. Remove the screw and lift the door off. Once the door is off you will remove the upper shelving and remove the icemaker. You will then need to remove the grill over the back panel and the screws holding the back panel in to access the fan motor.
