Joe November 07, 2012 for Model Number ED27DSXDW05 I have a Whirlpool refrigerator with a noisy condenser fan. I got the part number from Whirlpool (which is an updated number) but the "new" motor in all the pictures I have found is larger, has a metal blade instead of plastic and has a different wiring connector than the one on my refrigerator. While the motor and fan may fit, it would not plug in. Should I expect to have to modify the wiring (cut the connectors off) to install this motor? I didn't want to do this if there is another solution.

Peter October 24, 2012 for Model Number ed27dsxdw05 Re: condenser fan motor replacement part # 2169135. Wiring harness connectors and # of wires coming out of new motor is different Old fan has 3 male pins on motor housing. The 2 outside holes on the connector look like squares with a half circle on top. The center is round. The wiring harness going into the motor has these 3 places, only 2 are used. Left has a red (1/2circle square). Center has 2 whites.1 going to ice maker control, 1 appears to be going in from the power source. Issues: replacement motor has 2 wires coming out (1side of wire is smooth on the side/with some writing. The other has a series of ridges along that side. The connector coming from the motor has holes with 2 male pins. The size of the opening, direction of the square with half circle opening is different (facing the side rather than the top). The harness openings are larger than the new motors' opening. Of the 2 black wires coming out of the motor, which should I designate as connecting with the white wires? Will the single black out do the same job as the 2 white out? Please explain and offer a plan here. I would prefer to use the slip on connectors from the harness, but wire nuts and lots of tape can work. Where would I get the appropriate, new, male and female connectors? New topic- When the motor started making noise letting me know it needed to be replaced, the motor and compressor started cycling on and off about every 5 minutes. The refrigerator is holding a constant 38/41F hasn't been that cold all summer. Connected with this is that the refrigerator used to cycle, then be off for an hour or more, not this cycling. Snow built up in the freezer to refrigerator duct, causing the refrigerator to run 10+ hours until I figured out what was going on, and fixed it. Any possible connection here, with anything?
1 Answer Hi. Regardless of the connector issue's the wiring will be as such. The new fan motor part # WP2169135 black wire that is smooth jacketed is the positive wire. The other black wire that has the ribbed outer jacket is the neutral -negative wire. The unit may have a green wire included to ground the fan metal outer housing for safety. A few years ago the industry has changed to the ungrounded type that utilizes a non conductive fan housing. So the green wire will be placed under the nearest metal ground screw head. You can use wire nuts and black tape if desired. You can use male connector part # TJMA02526-1 and the female connector part # TJMA03018-1 to bypass the molded molex style connector. You will need to use a crimp er tool part # MA-30428. Make sure all wiring is tie wrapped back to the wire harness away from the fan blade and any body chafing. Thank You. Read More...
