The Pump and Motor Assembly is an OEM part for Whirlpool dishwashers. This assembly is responsible for draining water from the dishwasher during the drain cycle and recirculating water during the wash cycle. It works continuously throughout the cleaning process to remove dirty water and reuse clean water.

Causes of a bad pump and motor assembly include failures in the motor that drives the pump or internal clogging/blockages of the pump mechanism.

Symptoms of a bad pump and motor assembly include:

  • Incomplete draining of water at the end of the cycle
  • Leaks or flooded bottom of the dishwasher
  • Loud vibrating or grinding noises coming from underneath during the operation
  • The dishwasher failing to fill or recirculate water properly

This OEM Whirlpool replacement part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

For Whirlpool Pump&Motor (Part Number: OEM18713892)

Brian for Model Number WDT970SAHZ0

Hello. After my dishwasher runs for 15 to 20 minutes it starts leaking pretty significantly at the front left corner below the door. I can open the door to stop the dishwasher, restart the dishwasher and the leak stops. If I don't open the door and restart the dishwasher the leak will continue. I also noticed the top spray arm never turns and the bottom spray arm barely turns. I didn't see any cracks in either spray arm, dishwasher isn't overfilling and the dishwasher is level. I don't know if the diverter or pump is failing causing low water pressure to the spray arms keeping them from rotating or what is causing the leak. It's more than a drip. Water comes out steadily. Are the 2 problems related? I'm at a loss. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Brian, Check to ensure the wash arms are not cracked or stopped up. If they are all okay, then the pump and motor assembly has the diverter with it, so this will likely solve your issues.

Mike, the sump seal is only available with the sump assembly and is not offered separately.

Mike, On this unit, the most likely reason for your issue is the diverter motor is stuck between ports. There would likely be an error code with this issue if you run a service diagnostics.
