The Oven Temperature Sensor is an OEM part for Whirlpool ovens. This component is responsible for monitoring the oven's internal temperature, sending data to the control board to maintain the desired cooking temperature. It ensures accurate temperature readings, which are essential for baking, roasting, and other cooking functions.

Causes of a bad Oven Temperature Sensor include prolonged exposure to high temperatures, which can degrade its responsiveness over time. Additionally, physical damage or wear and tear can lead to inaccurate temperature readings.

Symptoms of a bad Oven Temperature Sensor include:

  • The oven temperature is inconsistent with the setting.
  • Food is not cooking evenly or as expected.
  • The oven fails to reach the set temperature, or it overshoots it significantly.
  • Error codes related to temperature regulation appear on the oven's display.

This OEM Whirlpool part can also be used on Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore/Sears brand appliances.

Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Oven Temperature Sensor (Part Number: OEM18046467)

1 Answer

Henry, It sounds like a shortage possibly at the terminal block at the back of the range where the cord attaches.

Hello, Ted. Unplug the range or turn off the range circuit breaker. Pull the range out of the wall and remove the rear panel. Visually check the wires connected to the Broil heating element (four terminals). If there is anything wrong, fix it. If everything looks fine, the Broil heating element would need to be replaced. The part number for the Broil heating element wp9760774

Brett H. for Model Number GW395LEPQ00

Hi, my oven has issues with temperature control. Often times it does not fully heat up to the desire temperature (usually 25 - 50 degrees below desired). However, the other day the oven kept heating up well beyond the 450 degrees that it was set for (ie. >600 degrees). Is this the temperature sensor needing to be replaced? Separately, I hear the oven clicking and will hear it ignite but periodically it won’t ignite...just click 3 times and then stop, only to try again in a few minutes. Related? Thanks

Hello Brett, the oven temp sensor can be checked with a multimeter , at room temperature it should ohm out at just under 1100 ohms. If it ohms correctly it is likely the control board is having problems. For oven bake burner repeatedly sparking and or not lighting, that type of ignition is dependent on a good ground for the bake burner. Take the burner off and lightly sand where it is mounted to the chassis, esp at the mounting screw, the screw should be snug but not overtight to avoid stripping it out. The burner flame once lit should envelop the ignitor electrode.

Rick In Noco for Model Number KEBK101SSS04

I have a Kitchenaide KEBK101SSS04 single wall oven. Recently, the thermal fuse was replaced because it got too hot during a self-clean cycle. after replacement the oven worked fine, for several months, then the bake element stopped heating. Broil element is functional, however, the bake element is not heating. I have replaced the bake element, and it is still not heating. No indication of burn, or damaged wires or connections, just no power to the bake element. What shall I check next?

1 Answer

Rick In NoCo, With this issue, the most likely cause for this will be a faulty control board.

After using the oven, the panel display will occasionally go dark and not come back on for 12-24 hours. I can hear a small click by the main control knob (the same sound that happens when the temp scrolling is done). The panel display will come back on eventually, usually the next day and after fiddling w buttons / knobs and opening closing the oven door a couple times. Thinking it may be a sensor of some sort? Over heating or bad connection? The oven is at least 15 years old.

1 Answer

LH, It really sounds like you could have a loose or bad connection where the display module plugs into the control board. The fact that the display comes back eventually makes me think the control where it plugs in could be at fault.

Anthony Guanciale for Model Number KEMS378SSS05

Hello, I have a question regarding the likely cause f the oven portion of our microwave oven unit not heating correctly. Approximately 3 weeks ago we noticed that although the oven turned on normally, and the electric heating elements came on that the oven would not reach an appropriate baking temperature nor finish a preheat cycle. I initially replaced the temperature sensor probe but this did not work. We did notice that the heat elements seemed to cycle on and off a lot. Would this most likely be the control board vs possibly a faulty heat element? Thanks Tony

1 Answer

Tony, You can test from the control board for correct voltages to the element. At test point T3-3 and T1-1 you should read 240 vac. Since you have replaced the temp sensor the only components in this circuit is the element and control. If you have the correct voltages from the control then the element would be the issue. Using those same test points you can do a resistance test on the element with no power on unit and look for 10 - 50 ohms of resistance when the element is at room temp.

AbHandyman, You will want to check the oven safety valve which should have a resistance 216 ohms between the center terminal and either of the other terminals on the valve. If there is sparking then this will most likely be a issue with the valve.

John, Based on this information it sounds like the issue will be with the oven control board. Also check the oven sensor for 1090 ohms of resistance. If off then the sensor will be faulty.

John, It is not uncommon for an oven temp. sensor to loose it's calibration in an older oven, an oven that is used to broil or high bake temperatures, or after a recent self clean cycle. Though the control "sees" a sensor resistance, it can be erratic and produce erratic temperatures and operation. Replacing the oven sensor WPW10131825 / 4455636 and checking the wire connection will most likely solve the issue. Thanks,
