General Electric Refrigerator TCD18PADARBB Won't start or doesn't start

This PTC start relay mounts on the refrigerator compressor and briefly energizes the start winding, then automatically opens as it warms. Replacing a weak relay helps restore reliable compressor starts and consistent cooling. What it does:

• Provides momentary power to the compressor's start winding at startup; the PTC element opens as it heats
• Helps ensure smooth compressor starts and reduces repeated start attempts
• Signs of a failed start device can include no cooling because the compressor won't run
• Clicking or buzzing from the compressor area every few minutes
• Compressor starts intermittently or stops shortly after starting

• Includes: 1 PTC start relay

• Disconnect power and pull the refrigerator forward to access the rear service area
• Remove the rear panel to reach the compressor compartment
• Unplug the wire harness and pull the old relay straight off the compressor terminals; note its orientation
• Push the new relay fully onto the compressor prongs, reconnect the harness, reinstall the panel, and restore power
