The repair sounds easy, doesn't it? It would have been, except that I actually had to do laundry while waiting for the part to arrive. So, I was using a pair of channel locks to turn the exposed bolt/post sticking out in order to turn the washing machine on. In doing so, I actually crushed part of the thread on the bolt, so the starter knob wouldn't screw on! In order to screw on the new starter knob, I had to buy a special nut which rethreaded the bolt. Replaced the agitator drive connector and dogs, worked well after a very quick fix. The second machine had a bad lid switch, replaced and solved the problem. Only took a few tools and a short amount of time and easy to do. Chat room was a good source of information. Read more

Researched this kenmore washer on-line and found the problem to be the lid switch. Saw a diagram on how to jump this switch by connecting a wire to both outside wires on the harness and voila! It worked! This is not a fix but it allowed me to finish the load of unwashed clothes and told me which part was bad (do not run washer jumped like this.......fire hazard!)
