Tested the power to the unit by turning on the cooktop portion and saw that I had power to all of the burners. Turned the selector knob to broil and saw that the top element would heat up. I then turned off the breaker to the unit. I then decided to take out the baking element to do a continuity test. When I touched it, a 1.5 inch section fell out. Replaced the bulb with a standard appliance bulb, recommended wattage, but the "gasket" behind the ring holding the glass cover over the bulb looked like a mat of fiberglass. It was almost impossible to get back into place without tufts of it sticking out of the metal ring. First, the reader should know that the oven is a GE wall oven, model JKS05P1 and it was 22 years old when I made the repair. I bought the door seal from Appliance Parts Pros so used the directions in the Q&A for this part. I loosened the screws as directed, but the old seal wouldn't budge. I searched online for other directions and discovered the screws needed to come out and the inner-liner needed to be pulled forward just a bit. The seal that goes from side to side was supposed to have a thin hook, the one I got was wider so I took a screwdriver and make the hole in the oven wide enough for the hooks to get in (yes, I cheated! But I knew it before hand). Changed the others seals and ready to go!! Read more
