Briggs & Stratton Filter Pre-Cleaner
Genuine Midwest Engine part
By: Midwest Engine
Part Number: 491435S

The pre-cleaner is usually placed over the actual air filter and is designed to catch debris and emissions before they enter the air filter, which will then clean the rest of the air going through the machine. The pre-cleaner can become dirty and clogged with debris as a part of regular use. As such, it should be replaced as part of a regular maintenance routine. However, it may also need to be replaced intermittently if it becomes clogged. An air filter or pre-cleaner is clogged if the engine will not run as smoothly as it should. Always check the manual for compatibility and part numbers, as well as any safety and replacement recommendations. This unit can be installed dry and does not require any special preparation or pre-oiling. This part replacement is suggested as maintenance because you may not be able to tell it is dirty until it is removed from the air filter, but a replacement is easy to perform. This OEM replacement pre-cleaner is compatible with various models of air filters in Briggs & Stratton engines. Be sure to check your user manual for part number compatibility and always wear gloves when replacing engine components.

Pulley Spring Assembly
Genuine Midwest Engine part
By: Midwest Engine
Part Number: 499901

Firing up the lawn mower should be a simple act: hold down the safety bar, grip the hand pull, and yank the rope. What if nothing happens? The pulley works by tightening the spring, then letting it loose, creating compressed air and fuel at the same time the magneto fires the spark plug. It is rare to have an issue with the pulley spring assembly that starts the chain reaction and results in the engine coming to life, but it is possible for the part to fail. If there is a problem with the starter mechanism then it is typically the rope pull wearing out. Users will know when the pulley assembly isn't working either because there is no resistance when the rope is pulled or pulling the rope results in no compression (the engine doesn't sound as if it's turning). When it is determined that the pulley spring needs to be replaced, the user should examine the pull rope and handle to make sure those items do not need to be replaced as well. The most important consideration in replacing this part is to make sure the replacement is an OEM genuine replacement part, which will exactly match this pulley. The pulley is compatible with Cub Cadet and Briggs & Stratton engines.

Replacement Grommet
Genuine Midwest Engine part
By: Midwest Engine
Part Number: 692187

This replacement grommet is bent at a 45-degree angle to create an elbow for the crankcase breather tube. Another name for the replacement grommet is a 45-degree breather tube. It is made from high-quality black rubber. If the exhaust smoke is coming out dark in color, the grommet may be cracked or damaged and need to be replaced. Another symptom of a faulty grommet is a reduction in mower performance. If the engine is backfiring, this could also be a sign that the grommet has failed. This simple repair doesn’t require any tools. It should easily fit into place without needing to remove any parts aside from the old grommet. Just attach the replacement grommet to the breather tube, connecting the crankcase to the carburetor. It is compatible with many mowers and other small engines manufactured by various brands like Briggs & Stratton, Cub Cadet, Simplicity, and Toro. This is a genuine OEM part.

Cylinder Head Gasket
Genuine Midwest Engine part
By: Midwest Engine
Part Number: 698717

This is a cylinder head gasket used on Briggs & Stratton small gasoline engines to replace the original gasket that sits between the cylinder, where the engine's combustion takes place, and the head, the top of the engine manifold. Typically the head gasket lasts for many years. With continued use, particularly if the mower or other small engine is used commercially, the user may notice leaking oil or heavy, white smoke coming from the mower when it runs. This is often a sign that the head gasket has been compromised and needs to be replaced. This gasket fits most Briggs & Stratton engines and is a genuine OEM replacement part guaranteed to be identical to the worn gasket that is being replaced. In order to replace the gasket, begin by removing the head bolts and the smaller screws that secure the pull cover; remove the head; scrape the remaining parts of the old gasket from the top of the cylinder head; sand down both the head and the cylinder surfaces and finish with paint thinner; make certain the new gasket seats precisely where the original was, then reverse the disassembly process. Make certain not to over tighten the screw when reassembling the mower. This gasket will fit most models of Briggs & Stratton small engines on machines such as lawn mowers, tillers, pressure washers, and edgers.

Pre-Cleaner Filter
Genuine Midwest Engine part
By: Midwest Engine
Part Number: 271466

This pre-cleaner filter sifts out dirt, dust, and debris in the air so it doesn't end up in other parts of the lawn and garden equipment. The pre-cleaner filter is made of durable foam but can become damaged or dirty. If it starts to clog or has been damaged, it will need to be replaced. A visual inspection of the pre-cleaner filter will determine whether it needs a replacement. There are no tools needed to replace the pre-cleaner filter in a piece of outdoor lawn equipment. The new replacement pre-cleaner filter will go into the same location. This is an authentic OEM replacement component that is directly sourced from the manufacturer. It is sold on an individual basis. The pre-cleaner filter is made for use with lawnmowers, tillers, leaf blowers, edgers, and wood chippers manufactured by Briggs & Stratton, Toro, Simplicity, and Lawn-Boy.

Filter Air-Cleaner Cartridge
Genuine Midwest Engine part
By: Midwest Engine
Part Number: 396424S

This filter air-cleaner cartridge is a genuine Midwest Engine part that can be used as a replacement part for outdoor appliances with small engines, such as leaf blowers, vacuums, and generators. The function of a filter air-cleaner cartridge is to protect the appliance from accumulating dirt, debris, and gunk which could damage the appliance's day-to-day functionality. This OEM replacement filter air-cleaner cartridge can serve as a 1:1 exchange for a malfunctioning or damaged filter air-cleaner cartridge. Signs of damage in a filter air-cleaner cartridge can manifest in the form of lower fuel economy than usual, strange popping and hissing engine noises, a visually dusty or dirty film on the filter revealed either by the naked eye or by flashlight, or black smoke pluming from the exhaust pipe. If any of these symptoms occur, the filter air-cleaner cartridge should be inspected and/or replaced. If the diagnosis proves the filter air-cleaner cartridge to be at fault, a new cartridge should be ordered before any attempt to use the appliance without a proper repair. Remember to always wear gloves when handling, repairing, and operating outdoor equipment. This spring brake is compatible with the brands Briggs and Stratton, Toro, and Simplicity.
