This is a compressor used in several types of home appliances. The compressor is designed to take cold gas in the appliance and place it under pressure so the gas raises in temperature. It is then moved through the refrigerator system to ensure the unit stays cold throughout the appliance. This part can become damaged or malfunction, which may cause the motor to stop running, make the motor noisier, or cause the motor to never stop running.If this happens, the compressor will need to be replaced. A basic set of tools will be needed. A pair of work gloves can also be useful. First, locate the compressor as it may be in various locations depending on the appliance model. Unplug the appliance before removing the compressor. The plastic on the strike ice door was broken which caused cam to slip. CAUTION: when I removed assembly, I also removed swith and cover. This allowed water to enter switch and shorted it out when power was reapplied. My mistake. I ordered strike is door, switch and seal on Monday and all arrived on Friday.
