Removed the back cover to access the fan area. Clean the area with brush and vac first. Unplugged the Refrigerator. Used a socket set with 1/4" socket. Had an extended and a standard socket. Removed the condensate plastic drain from the bottom of the refrigerator to have more access to the fan. Unplugged the fan motor. Removed the two screws holding the fan in place. This is a Whirlpool refrigerator control board. It manages the appliance's temperature, defrost timing, and other vital functions. If damaged, the refrigerator may have difficulty maintaining an appropriate temperature. The compressor may run constantly, or may never kick on at all.Unplug the refrigerator before installing this part. It might be a good idea to move food to temporary cool storage, as well. Technician replaced the damper first, but that did not fix the problem. Then he said it was the circuit board that needed replacing after confirming the temp sensor was ok, but he wanted $200 in labor to replace it. The same part from Appliance Parts was $75 cheaper and I was able to replace the part myself in about 20 minutes. Saving an additional $200. Everything works just like it was supposed to. Read more
First replaced start capacitor but that did not work, the start kit which has a relay and overload protector is what was needed. The relay is actually the only part that was bad I believe. After pulling the relay off the compressor you could shake it and it rattled, the new one did not. Really pretty easy and definitely cheaper than a service call. Read more
